Instagram is completely full of beautiful images and interesting information. How can you make your way through that jungle? Don't panic, we will help you! Today we are listing 5 inspiring Instagram accounts on sustainability for you.
Since we still want to tie it back to entrepreneurship and marketing, we also highlight a take-away that you can apply to get your own marketing on fleek.
@greenswithoutborders_gzg
Ha, this is a bit of cheating though, because I'm on the social media team 😉 but I don't make all the posts and certainly can't take credit for the strategy behind them.
Vegetables Without Borders is a volunteer initiative that rescues leftover fruits and vegetables from the market every week to turn them into a free and 100% vegan buffet. In this way, the initiative combats food waste, contributes to social inclusiveness and helps people who are less fortunate.
Different things are shared on the Instagram account. Each month, for example, the monthly fruits and vegetables are featured, but other vegan tips are also shared, such as dealing with people who are not vegan. To make it a little more personal, another topic is "Humans of GZG," in which volunteers are interviewed. Recipes are also shared, such as for vegan chicken nuggets. Another topic is initiatives, in which vegan initiatives and tips in Rotterdam are shared. In short: many different themes and topics that all fulfill a certain need. Together, the posts contribute to Vegetables Without Borders' goals of making veganism and sustainability more accessible and spreading brand awareness of the concept.
→ Your take-away: start thinking about what themes you might post in and plan accordingly.
@miishashop
This sustainable webshop sells eco-friendly, plastic-free and natural products. And that doesn't have to be boring or expensive. The webshop contains many fun, beautiful and versatile items. Great if you want to give a sustainable gift or treat yourself to something beautiful.
Treat yourself with a beautiful item from Misha's webshop - whether you're looking for a sustainable candle or shampoo. This way you also support local entrepreneurship, because Misha runs the webshop from our beautiful Amsterdam.
What immediately stands out about the feed is the beautiful photography and good balance. There is a lot of white, but the photos are not boring. You see recurring elements such as dried flowers and clear shading. Thus, there is consistency in the feed without being boring. The feed is also occasionally "broken up" with photos of people instead of products and fun quotes and illustrations.
→ Your take-away: choose certain recurring elements, colors, patterns, angles or other things so that you have consistency in your feed.
@huh_is_this_vegan
A while back we stumbled upon this great account that lists products that are vegan. The larger Albert Heijns have since put up a "vegan" sign with the vegan products, but even before that was a thing, this account offered a godsend for (aspiring) vegans.
On a regular basis, posts are posted with products that are surprisingly vegan. This responds well to the need of the target audience: the struggle that it is unclear which products are vegan. Thus, it saves the (aspiring) vegan uuuuu hours of time.
→ Your take-away: see what problem you can solve for your target audience and base your social media strategy on that.
@choiceful.rotterdam
If you like sustainability, Rotterdam is a great city for you. Sustainable entrepreneurship is very much alive here, there are lots of sustainable restaurants and all kinds of fun initiatives. @choiceful.rotterdam highlights the sustainable side of Rotterdam. From delicious restaurants to sustainable products; Choiceful shows how sustainable Rotterdam really is.
Not a Rotterdammer or no connection to Rotterdam? No worries, general sustainability tips are also shared. Think natural hygiene, travel tips or sustainable fashion. Give Choiceful Rotterdam a follow if you want low-key sustainability tips with beautiful photos and colorful graphics!
The feed is very different from Miishashop, for example, but you can still see consistency. We see pictures of products, quotes, pictures of the people behind the brand and some sort of infographics. Value is offered in every post.
→ Your take-away: research what your target audience needs and respond accordingly.
@zeroplastics.co.uk
On this account you will find all kinds of tips for living more sustainably - whether you are looking for plastic-free stores or tips for a vegan lifestyle. For example, on the website you can find blogs about plastic-free products or a list of plastic-free stores in Amsterdam.
And on the account itself? There, Katelijne regularly shares tips for a more sustainable life. Think about vegan cheese stores in Amsterdam or how to wash your clothes sustainably. With beautiful pictures and an approachable tone of voice, this account is a joy to follow.
We see that many business owners are not yet using the "highlight" feature. That's a shame. After all, it allows you to make a good first impression on Instagram users who are viewing your profile for the first time. You put so much effort into creating beautiful stories, what a shame if they disappear from the face of the earth after 24 hours. That's what stories are for. @zeroplastics.nl does this well, with a few clear Instagram highlights such as 'products' and 'blogs'.
→ Your take-away: easy as that, research which Instagram highlights would work best for you and get started! You can add your stories to your highlights every time right away or do this once in a while, say once a month.
@thinkworksagency
Andnnnnnnn on @thinkfactoryagency, of course we also share fat fun tips! For example, we explain how to be more sustainable at the office or which sustainable food bloggers you can follow. So give us a follow too 😉
