With the rise of the Internet, scores of new professions have emerged. Working online is the new work and freelancing is the new office work. I find freelancing next to my master the most chilling thing there is. Gaining relevant work experience, determining my own working hours, going on vacation whenever I want (and study allows it). allows). But sometimes it's also hard. In the past six months I have learned a lot learned a lot about freelancing alongside your studies.
Schedule time for it
Insider actually, but planning is the key to working efficiently. My most productive hours are between hours are between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. I'm okay, but after 4 p.m. I really slow down. afternoon I really lose it. Working in the evening is also very bad for me, unless I take a power nap or have an important deadline; then I have to. have to. So I deliberately schedule two mornings a week to sit in on my studies. Which two days those are varies per block, because I have a different schedule. Currently, I have college on Tuesdays and Fridays and am at my studies every Monday and Wednesday mornings to my studies. Thursday is then completely free for work.
Maybe you are between 7 o'clock and 11 o'clock at night on fire. Then make sure you schedule time for your studies here. What works, that really varies from person to person. Still, scheduling time does help, because you are consciously setting aside time for your studies.
Also, plan for some space
If you schedule your days full to the minute, there is no room for any changes. Things just don't go exactly the way you want or plan them. As an OCD-er, I find this very annoying, but I have had to learn to live with it. People do not exactly what you want. Then you have to edit an article last-minute, build a build a web page that way after all, make a phone call, interview, send a receipt to your accountant... schedule time for this in, otherwise you really will go crazy. Trust me.
Works marten, not harder
There is a lot of time to be gained. How much time do you spend on your phone every day? How often are you on Facebook, are you taking a long lunch, walking aimlessly around the supermarket or sitting on the train? Try to keep your non-efficient time as low as possible. possible. Apple has now built in a tool where you can set yourself a time limit yourself. So my Instagram is set to 30 minutes, otherwise I scroll all day long. Android probably has an app available for this. Uninstall the Facebook app, it really works (you can still use the Messenger app as normal). Make a weekly food food planning and do shopping once a week. Saves mega time and money, plus you can set yourself a snack limit. And if you have to travel a lot, try to travel outside rush hour so you can get a chill seat get a chill seat. Then you can work on the train with little things you have prepared in advance. For example, I am typing this blog post in the Intercity Direct from Rotterdam to Schiphol. Rotterdam to Schiphol Airport. Other offline things: keep your books, organize folders organize, polish up your marketing plan/ business plan, brainstorm, keep a schedule keeping schedule or reading a good book.
Outsource when you can
This is also a shout out to my virtual assistant Astrid. She does all kinds of things for me. Little finishing little tasks I don't get around to, organizing my life a bit, motivating me and doing some design or copywriting jobs on the side. I save so much time with this and she learns something again. Outsourcing costs money, but it gives you time and hopefully peace of mind.
Be strict with yourself, but also be kind
Freelancing alongside a full-time study is not going to work for you if you are too kind to yourself. Sometimes you just have to work 16 hours in a day. Once in a while you just have to that you have to live without breaks for a day. And yes, sometimes you have to miss fun things miss. It's all part of the job. Give yourself a kick in the butt and work hard. You will get a lot in return.
On the other on the other hand, I also learned a wise lesson about resting. I am always chaud for a press dinner, networking event, movie night or a lecture. But I have found that it is necessary to hit the pause button every once in a while and chill. Just Netflix with Valentino on my lap, ride a bike around with Mom, laying on the beach, playing Monopoly with my dad and little brother or taking an afternoon nap. When your head is constantly full, there's no room for everything to networking. Then you go nuts. So be strict with yourself, but be also be really nice to yourself once in a while.
